Paint Technology

Paint technology is a very vast and complex subject. Paint technology or Coating technology is developing continuously.

In the last few years, the rate of change in the industry, in terms of not just products, but legislation and technology, has increased dramatically. The most dramatic changes in paint technology over the recent past years have been driven by Social concern about environment and health giving effect to make regulations of Clean Air Act, related topics of Health and Safety. Many coating materials which were technically important sometime back are now obsolete.

Depending upon the application and product requirement a selection of type of paint is chosen by the OEM out of Enamels, Epoxy, NC Lacquers, Acrylics, Polyesters, Poly Urethanes etc. for faster touchups and longevity of repairs. All refinish paints should be used with the same care and concern for safety and health for you and your employees.

Aerosols are defined as a "Pressurized sealed containers with liquefied gases so that the product becomes self dispensing".

Aerosol package has been extolled as convenient, clean, dependable, easy to use, efficient dispensing. Aerosol packaging technology is controlled world over by regulation of FDA Act, Clean Air Act, Occupation Safety and Health Act (OSHA), Environment Protection Act, Consumer Products Safety Act etc.

Spray Paint Technology is a combination of two very complex technologies i) Paint Technology and ii) Aerosol Technology. Formulating and filling Aerosol paints is more complicated than filling a can of brush type paint. In development of various type of paints in aerosol form, the alteration in the formulations have to be made for different surface application viz Metal, Wood, ABS, and Polypropylene plastics and so on, careful selection of solvents and its balance, compatibility with Valve gasket and proper spray pattern aperture.

The basic properties of a good quality air drying paint can be marred in aerosol conversion. Incorrect formulation will lead to many paint defects in the finish like, adhesion loss, orange peel, pin holes, cratering, bubbles, cracking, sagging, loss of gloss, dry spray and poor coverage. Excessive pressure development inside the can may cause serious accident due to paint can bursting at 45ºC ambient temperature.
